  I’vereadabookcalledPrideandPrejudicewrittenbyJaneAustenduringthiswinterholidays.JaneAustenwasunmarriedallherlife.Shewasborninamid-classfamilyandwasbroughtupinacomfortableenvironmentwithharmonioussurroundings,sothere’snottoomanyconflictsinhersightneitherinhernovel.InPrideandPrejudiceshetalkeddifferentideasaboutloveandmarriagethroughdifferentcharacters.

  Thenovelhastoldaninterestingstory:Mr.BennetisanEnglishgentlemanwithanestateinHertfordshire.Hehasfiveunmarrieddaughtersbutnosonswhilehisinheritancemustbeinheritedbyamale,soMrs.Bennethasbeenkeentoseekhusbandforherdaughterswithgreatenthusiasm.OnedaytheBennetshadanewneighborcalledBingleywhowasawealthybachelorandfollowedbethetargetofMrs.Bennet.

  AtaballBingleyfellinlovewithJaneBennetwho’stheoldestdaughteroftheBennets.Bingley’sfriendDarcyalsocametotheballandstruckthesights,manygirlslikedhimwhilehethoughtallofthemcouldn’tsuithispreference,includingElizabeth.Mr.Darcyalwaysshowsothersaimpressionofpride,havingfoundthisElizabethbegantohateMr.Darcy.BeforelongDarcyfellinlovewithElizabethBennett(secondoldestdaughterintheBennets)becauseofherlovelybehavior,whileElizabethisdisgustedbyhisprideandhasaprejudiceabouthim.

  TheofficialWickhamwaswelcomedbythevillagers,andElizabethalsotookashinetohim.WickhamtoldElizabeththathisfatherhadbeenthestewardoftheDarcys.TheoldDarcyhadregardedWickhamashisownsonandshowedmorelovetohimthantoMr.Darcy.AftertheoldDarcydied,thepropertyshouldbeinheritedbyWickhamwasalldeprivedbyMr.Darcy,alsowashispastorate.AllthisincreasedEli’sprejudiceaboutMr.Darcy.

  AtanotherballMr.DarcyinvitedElizabethtodancewithhim,butElirefusedhim.Eli’seldermalecousinMr.CollincametoHertfordshiretoinherittheBennett'spropertybyrules,hewantedtomarrywithoneoftheBennets.HavingknownthatJanewasalreadyengagedwithMr.Bingley,heaskedElizabethtomarryhimbutwasseriouslyrejected.AtlastheproposedtoCharllotewhowasEli’sfriend.Mr.CollinswasgoodatflatteringandhegotthepastoratewiththehelpofLadyCatherine.OncehisfamilywasinvitedtoRosingsGardenbyLadyCatherine.

  ElizabethalsowenttherewithMr.CollinandCharllote.ThereshemetMr.Darcywho’sLadyCatherine’snephew.Laterinagarden,SirWilliamtoldEliaboutMr.Darcy’slatestactofdissuadingMr.Bingley’smarringJaneBennetwhichcausedEli’sexceedinglyanger.ThenMr.DarcycametotheCollins’andconfessedhisloveforElizabeth,ofcoursehewasrejectedimpolitely.AfterwardsMr.DarcywrotealettertoEliinordertoremovehermisunderstandingsofhim.Elizabeth’suncleandauntwerealsoimpressedbyMr.Darcy’spoliteness.GraduallyEli’sprejudiceofMr.Darcydiappeared.Eventuallytheybecamecouple.

  ThewriterJaneAustendisclosedmid-classyoungladies’differentideasofmarriageandlovethroughdescribingthedifferentwaysinwhichtheBennetgirlsdoingwiththeirmarriageproblems,andthisundoubtedlyshowsthewriter’sideaaboutloveandmarriage:it’swrongtogetmarriedjustforproperty,wealthandstatuswhileneitherwoulditbewithoutcaringaboutthoseelements.JaneAustenjustattachedgreatsignificancetomarriagethroughhernovelbytellingpeoplethatmarriageshouldberegardedcarefullycauseitisnotagameyoucouldjustenjoywithoutprudentconsideration.Shealsowantedtodeliverinformationthatmarriageshouldbebasedonreallovebetweenthelovers.

  ThefemalesubjectElizabethisamid-classgirl,andDarcyproposedtoherregardlessofthegapbetweenthem,butElizabethrefusedbecauseofhispridehadformedEli’sprejudice.CauseDarcy’spridewasasuggestofstatusgapbetweenheandEli,hewouldn’thavethesamethoughtwithEliandconsequentlytheidealmarriage.ButlaterDarcy’sdoingsespeciallyhischangeofthepridefulmannereliminatedEli’smisunderstandingsandprejudiceabouthim,andEliacceptedhisproposal.

  Thosetwooppositeattitudesreflectfemale’spursueofindependentpersonalityandequality.IthinkElizabethhaspersonalityethicwhichcausedherindependentideaaboutloveandmarriageandinconsequencesheearnedahappylife.There’realsoEli’ssisters’lovestoriesservedascontraststothefemalesubject’sidealmarriage,suchasCharlotteandCollin’slife:theydohadaluxurylife,butthere’snoreallovebetweenthemandthiskindofmarriageissurelyatragedyofsociety.
